Building Digital UK (BDUK) has awarded broadband provider Gigaclear a Project Gigabit contract to provide around 4,400 premises across East Gloucestershire with access to gigabit-capable broadband. Following a robust procurement process, Gigaclear was awarded a £16 million contract to provide hard-to-reach premises in East Gloucestershire with this broadband. The contract was signed in February 2024 and the first premises are anticipated to have access in the same year. This contract is part of a wider strategy for Project Gigabit, with other local and regional procurements planned and underway across the UK. Under Project Gigabit the government is also providing up to £210 million worth of voucher funding as immediate help for people experiencing slow broadband speeds in rural areas.
