The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved funding of R$ 495 million for the modernization of the logistical infrastructure of the Port of Paranaguá, located in the state of Paraná. The project, to be executed by the Administration of the Ports of Paranaguá and Antonina (APPA), has a total investment of R$ 647 million and aims to implement a system of reception and unloading of grains and meals at the terminals for export, including the adaptation of the road and rail system in the eastern region of the port. The changes in traffic are expected to reduce CO2 emissions in the port area by about 70%. The main impacts expected from the operation include increasing the capacity of rail reception of bulk from seven to 24 million tons per year; eliminating the need for locomotives and wagons to perform complex maneuvers; and improving road circulation in the port area.
